Granite Hold

High above the Kingdom of Alveron, tucked in the chilly grasp of the Icespine Mountains sits Granite Hold, the seat of the High Thane during the Fourth Age.

Originally Granite Keep, a small and mostly forgotten outpost during the Third Age, Regard Ironshield fled there with his people to escape the Dragon Scourge. With the aid of the eladrin, Ironshield expanded the keep’s size and defenses, and from there he was able to rally the other dwarven cities, such as the Basalt Halls, the Goldfathom Mines, Ironhammer Hold, and others against the Scourge.

Like all dwarven cities, Granite Hold is a massive, self supporting city-state. The outer city, the part that extends above ground is surrounded by enormous iron walls on one side, and Mt Korinare on the other. From the hold, the High Thane commands the Iron Shields, the city’s heavily armored army. The Hold also guards the most easiest path through the Icespine mountains to the frozen north of Winterhome.
